If you are looking for that ONE BBQ sauce that is so versatile and delicious it can be used with multiple dishes, try my brand new Sweet ‘n Tangy BBQ Sauce. I was so excited about this amazing versatile sauce that I just had to create THREE tantalizing dishes for your eating pleasure… Sweet ‘n Tangy BBQ Chicken, Sweet ‘n Tangy BBQ Salmon and Grilled BBQ Chicken Pizza!
Sweet ‘n Tangy BBQ Sauce
To be perfectly honest… I have always shied away from making my own BBQ sauce as I was afraid I couldn’t create the perfect balance between spicy and sweet. But alas, most bottled BBQ sauces contain corn syrup and other sugars plus unwanted additives that I don’t feel comfortable using. Recently, my dear friend Patty Anderson from Cooking on a Budget blogged about her Barbecue Sauce Glaze which instantly caught my eye as it was made with wholesome ingredients. So with my new-found confidence, I bit the bullet and started experimenting, using Patty’s recipe as my “teacher.” I hope you like my result!
Makes about 1 3/4 cups
2 tablespoons olive oil (not extra-virgin)
1 small onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 cup all-natural ketchup (like Trader Joe’s or Annie’s Naturals)
1/2 cup all-natural 100% peach or apricot preserves (like Polaner or St. Dalfour)
1 tablespoon honey, optional (depending on desired sweetness)
1/3 cup apple cider vinegar
2 tablespoons reduced-sodium tamari or soy sauce
2 teaspoons to 1 tablespoon chili powder
Cayenne as desired
Sweet ‘n Tangy BBQ Chicken
Whether you have a favorite family BBQ chicken recipe or you’re forever searching for “just that right one,” I invite you to try mine featuring Sweet ‘n Tangy BBQ Sauce. Combined with my sister Ronnie’s trick of partially cooking seasoned chicken in the oven, followed by brushing on the BBQ sauce and completing the cooking on the grill, in my mind produces BBQ chicken perfection! See if you agree.

Olive oil spray (I like the Misto!)
6 chicken drumsticks
6 chicken thighs
